Benjamin Ruggles Woodbridge (March 5, 1739March 8, 1819) of South Hadley, Massachusetts, practiced medicine and law, was a colonel in the Massachusetts militia during the American Revolutionary War,〔''Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors in the War of the Revolution, Vol 17'', online database, The Generations Network Inc., Provo, Utah (1998); original data from the Secretary of the Commonwealth, ''Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors in the War of the Revolution, Vol. 17'', Wright and Potter Printing Co., Boston (1896), pp. 798-800.〕 and was a commander at the Battle of Bunker Hill. He was also a farmer, and he owned a rum still, a wood lot, a grazing meadow, and a mill, and came to be the wealthiest man in the town.
